The Silverton Scandal

Published by Robert Hale ISBN 0 7090 7341 0

When a highwayman held up the stagecoach on which Miss Eleanor Grantham was travelling, she had no idea that she would come face to face with the same man later at the house of a family friend. Without his mask he was Lucien, Lord Silverton, brooding, dangerous and charismatic, but why had he disguised himself, and what had he hoped to gain?

Faced with a problem of her own Eleanor enlisted his help, and together they stepped into an adventure that embraced blackmail and cold-blooded murder.

Scandal ensued, and to protect her reputation Lucien offered her his hand in marriage, but Eleanor had no interest in his hand without his heart.

REVIEWS

"Regency romances never seem to lose their popularity and fans of Amanda Grange won't be disappointed in this one. The story is well plotted and we have no difficulty in believing that the strong-minded Eleanor Grantham would be driven to desperate measures in her efforts to protect her younger sister from a blackmailer. When she meets the mysterious Earl of Silverton, the scene is set for abduction, espionage, treachery and murder.

The ingredients of the plot may seem familiar, even down to the appearance of a highwayman, but the author has given her tale a freshness which is original and appealing. Both hero and heroine are attractive characters and we follow their adventures with interest as the tale moves along at a cracking pace.

Amanda Grange is not afraid of dialogue and she uses it to good effect as she takes us into the privileged world of the rich in 1810."

"Miss Eleanor Grantham is on her way to face her sister's blackmailer when her stagecoach is held up by a highwayman, but it isn't until later that evening she discovers the highwayman is the wealthy Earl of Silverton.

It seems that the Earl of Silverton also wants to find the blackmailer and again their paths cross, though this time the danger is higher and when they are both captured, a scandal follows. The Earl offers her his hand in marriage but by now Eleanor knows it isn't her reputation that is in danger, it is her heart.

I loved The Silverton Scandal. It has a fast, compelling plot, a determined heroine and a gorgeous hero and lots of regency details. Some of the current regencies are too modern for my liking but as soon as I stared reading The Silverton Scandal I was hooked and by the time I finished I found myself reaching for my Georgette Heyer's. Not a bad comparison!"

Amanda Ashby, Heart to Heart

"This is another sprightly romance from Ms Grange, the author of five other novels all published by Robert Hale. She has the right light touch. As well as romance she has woven in mystery, murder and various other plot twists and turns and with the added delight of the usual balls and parties . . . This ought to appeal to anybody who likes their romances seasoned with mystery."
